Om mani padme hum is an ancient mantra that is related to the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara, and with therefore the Dalai Lama, who is considered to be an incarnation of Avalokiteshvara the Buddha of Compassion.
Buddhist believe that by chanting this mantra aloud or silently it invokes compassion for ones self and for all sentient beings who live upon Earth. In Tibet and Nepal this will be one of the most well know mantras being heard as you walk through the small streets and past the monasteries.
Turquoise is well known and used stone in Native American and Tibetan traditions.
